iDoodle2Lite is a simple drawing application much like MS Paint for Windows. You have your choice of tools quite similar to Paint - freeform pen, straight line, rectangle, oval, and freeform shape, as well as a pallette of colours for the object borders and fill. The “Lite” version of the app is free while the full version (iDoodle2 for $2.99) adds additional features such as using color gradients, importing photos as background, and text.

Let’s start by saying doodling on the iPhone is not as easy a task as I imagined. I don’t have big hands, but drawing smaller things with your finger is a frustrating challenge. Take a look at my masterpiece - an artistic depiction of a nice sunny day. The blue background, rectangular grass area, circle sun was cinch to put together. Trying to get those little sun rays to come out right (and as you can tell, I finally gave up) was the major pain. Originally I wanted to draw a little flower in the grass area, but again, drawing pedals was close to impossible for me.

Add to it my biggest complaint for the application - undo. The first challenge of this feature was finding it at all. There is no undo feature. The developer decided that instead of a simple undo button, you have to “flick” the iphone 90 degrees to the left to undo, and 90 degrees to the right to redo. This is obviously not intuitive to anyone, so without reading the instructions on the developer’s website, you’re left thinking that there is no undo feature at all. Once you have figured it out, then you have the challenge of it actually working. I found that the undo doesn’t always worked, and when it does, its often laggy making you think it didn’t work. Eventually you find yourself waving your iphone back and forth and frustrated as hell.

The Bottom Line

If you are someone who can doodle perfectly with your fingers and never need to use the undo feature, this is a decent app to play with. However, for the imperfect, the undo feature is just too painful to use.
